How Leaks Affect Your Bill

Is your water bill unusually high? You may have a leak. Other signs of a leak include:

  • Hearing water running when no taps are on
  • Noticing water pooling around pipes
  • Seeing wet spots on walls or floors
  • Finding a constantly running toilet

How to Find & Fix Leaks

Use these tips to identify unknown water leaks:

  1. Water Meter - Check your meter before and after a two-hour period of no water use. If there’s an increase, you probably have a leak.
  2. Toilets – Drop food coloring in the tank, wait 15 to 20 minutes, and check for color in the bowl.

If you suspect a leak, contact Aqua customer service to discuss your usage and our team may send a technician to check your meter. If you know of a leak in your home, such as a running toilet, call our team to review your account, usage, and confirm the leak before getting connected to our Leak Repair assistance options.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Leak Repair Program work?

Once the leak is identified and confirmed, Aqua’s assistance team will work with local plumbers to get an estimate for repairs. The estimate will be sent to the Aqua team to check if the repairs are covered. If approved, the plumber will schedule a repair time. If the repairs are not covered, the Aqua team will contact you.

What types of leaks are covered under this program?

This program helps cover repair costs for low-income customers if a leak or issue affects their water bill, like a leaking toilet or a problem that could lead to water service being cut off for wasting water. Note: The program does not cover repairs for hot water tanks, boilers, swimming pools, hot tubs, or filtration systems.

I have already fixed my leak, but my bill is still high, what do I do?

We encourage our customers in need of financial support to apply for our CAP – which offers new and expanded discounts to help you save on your water and wastewater bills. In addition to monthly discounts, CAP offers $40 credits towards older balances when monthly payments are made. Apply for CAP today
