Aqua Illinois Revitalizes Iconic Knox County Elevated Water Tank, Water Treatment Plant
Renovations improve water quality, safety and efficiency for Oak Run community
Oak Run, Ill. (August 7,2024) – Aqua Illinois proudly announces the completion of a comprehensive water infrastructure project in Oak Run. This initiative not only ensures the continued reliability, safety and appearance of the landmark elevated water tank but also involves the modernization of the local water treatment plant.
The project encompassed several key improvements to the water tank:
- Interior Coating Upgrade: Protects drinking water quality and extends the lifespan of the tank.
- New Code-Compliant Ladder: Improves safety for maintenance workers.
- Mixer Installation Enhances water circulation and reduces the possibility of freezing during winter.
- Bird Deterrent System: Safeguards the tank from bird-related damage.
- Fresh Paint and Vibrant Logo: Revitalizes the tank’s appearance and protects against corrosion.
In addition to the water tank upgrades, Aqua Illinois has begun construction to modernize the Oak Run water treatment plant, with an estimated completion date in early 2025. The plant will be equipped with H2S Filters to remove hydrogen sulfide (H2S) from the water, reducing odors in the water supply for residents.
