Project Underway to Replace Customer Lead and Galvanized Service Lines in Bradford County, Pennsylvania
In a major improvement for residents in Athens Borough, Aqua Pennsylvania kicked off a project to replace customer-owned lead and galvanized service lines for hundreds of people. Service lines are pipes running from roughly the curb line to homes and businesses. Aqua already treats drinking water for corrosion control, but replacing these aging pipes is an extra step in mitigating the risk for customers.
“At Aqua Pennsylvania, we always put our customers first,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “Although our drinking water treatment meets all regulatory standards, we are ready to remove these pipes so that the material is made of the most modern materials.”
In all, approximately 400 customer-owned service lines will be replaced. Aqua contracted with Vacri Construction Corporation to complete the work from pipe replacement to ground repair. A two-year warranty on the replacements will be provided. Customers should expect a call from Aqua to schedule a service line replacement. To ensure customer safety, homeowners should not permit access by any contractor or plumber without prior notice and proper identification.
Currently, replacements are only underway in Athens Borough, but crews will be working to identify customers with unknown service line material in Athens Township, Athens Borough, Sayre Borough and South Waverly Borough. Those replacements will be done in future projects.
There is a one-year construction window, but Aqua will make every effort to complete this work as soon as possible.
