Pittsboro Update 06 - Town Finds Non-Detect for 1,4 Dioxane Across System; Free Water Program Discontinued
PITTSBORO, NC – This afternoon (2/9/2024), the Town of Pittsboro received the results of rush 1,4 dioxane samples taken yesterday morning at various points in our water treatment and distribution system.
Testing indicated:
- Raw Grab from Intake – Non-Detect
- Finished Water Grab – Non-Detect
- Chatham Forest Standpipe – Non-Detect
- Million Gallon Tank – Non-Detect
- Horton Tank – Non-Detect
These results indicate that this 1,4 dioxane event is over. We have seen throughout this event that the Town's response plan to 1,4 dioxane events successfully maintained our water supply while limiting the uptake of the substance into our water distribution system.
As this event is ended, the Town is discontinuing the free water program at Chatham Marketplace effective at 8:00 PM today.
We encourage our residents and water customers to sign up for Town news and alerts by visiting www.pittsboronc.gov/CivicAlerts.aspx and clicking the "Notify Me" button. Users can customize the types of news/alerts they want and how they want to receive them. Notification of stopping the free water program will be delivered through this method. We also encourage everyone to sign up for emergency alerts from Chatham County at www.readychatham.org under the ALERT CHATHAM tab. The Town can use this system in an emergency for alert and warning purposes.
We appreciate the patience of our customers and residents as we have worked through this latest event.
